First half 19th century

A fascinating Suzani from Ura Tube, a city in the Emirate of Kokand. The small disc medallion seen at the centre of the field encloses a circular blossom which is radially surrounded by twenty buds. The rare design resembles a spoked wheel that appears to rotate. It provides the starting point from which emanate large branches decorated with flowers, botehs and leaves. The four long branches running diagonally to the corners of the field are the dominant element in this composition of dynamic appearance. The wide main border contains spaciously arranged twigs bearing circular, cross-shaped and fan-shaped blossoms as well as botehs. – Minimal signs of age, good overall condition. Backed with canvas.
