Description

Nurata Suzani

Origin:
Central Asia, South West Uzbekistan

Dimensions:
219 x 154 cm

Age:
First half 19th century

Estimate:
4,700.00 €

This Nurata suzani displays a small floral star at the centre of the field, four diagonal flowering trees in the corners as well as smaller flowering trees and delicate panicles. Seven birds have been randomly incorporated into the composition. Leaving large parts of the white cotton ground undecorated is a characteristic feature of the provenance. The large boteh seen in the right-hand upper section of the field is a later addition, probably to cover a missing area. Purchased from the Bausback gallery, Mannheim. – Signs of age and wear, damaged sides, backed with fabric.
