Description

Large Medallion Suzani

Large medallion suzanis tend to be large in size, measuring 2.5 to 2.8 metres in length, and accordingly their central medallions are huge. However, some examples were made in the "nim" format that is only half this size; they are particularly rare. This nim suzani in the Vok Collection is listed as "UE3" in Franses’ monograph. The round medallion is composed of two concentric rings and has diagonal leaves and bars emanating from its central point. Four vines of zoomorphic appearance surround the central design at a respectful distance. Each corner of the field contains one large blossom. Two birds have been incorporated into the design at the bottom right. – Good condition, backed with canvas.
