Description

Bokhara Suzani

Bokhara silk embroidery of the ruijo type, with three embroidered, patterned panels of equal width framing a plain inner field. In this type, the upper finish is often executed as a sweeping arch, but this piece dispenses with this kind of accentuation. The fan-shaped blossoms enclosed by pairs of slender green leaves and linked by thin twigs are arranged in airy rows of two, the interstices between them decorated with small flowers and twigs drawn in light, bright colours. The green taffeta fabric covering the field is obviously a later addition. – Only slight signs of age, good overall condition.
